Welcome to the website of the research group for German Linguistics, in particular the system of contemporary German—short: German Linguistics/Language System—at Ruhr University Bochum. Our team investigates the structure and meaning of the German language, with a focus on formal semantics, pragmatics, and grammar (in particular syntax). Our research addresses the interfaces of semantics with pragmatics and syntax and covers topics such as expressive language, context dependence and context theory, the common ground, and at-issueness/prominence. In teaching, we regularly offer courses on these topics in addition to introductory courses in the core areas of linguistics. Current news as well as information on our projects, publications, talks, and events can be found on this website.
